Earth, Wind, and Sound:
A Celebration of Nature
through Music and Poetry
Dear NOW Community,
As often happens in the world of performing arts organizations, any number of things can arise that conspire to cause a performance cancellation. I am glad it is rare but, sadly, I write to let you know that a few of those very things have caused us to cancel this season’s March 21 performance of Earth, Wind and Sound. We looked forward so much to this celebration of World Poetry Day, presenting Dvorak’s enchanting Serenade for Woodwinds alongside the evocative poetry of an Indian American poet, Neha Misra, whose words echo the beauty of the earth and the urgent call for its preservation.
Rest assured that the remainder of our exciting 2024-25 season is on track.
Please save the date for NOW’s Annual Spring Gala at the historic Evermay Mansion in Georgetown on May 22.
Our season’s final performance on June 20, Ode to Freedom, Ode to Joy, will be a powerful concert that intertwines the timeless message of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the spirit of Black empowerment and joy, performed by the New Orchestra of Washington, the Washington Douglass Chorale and soloists from the Denyce Graves Foundation.
As always, we treasure your support and appreciate you for being part of our NOW community. We look forward to greeting you again soon.
This concert is canceled.

In celebration of World Poetry Day, NOW presents Dvořák's enchanting Serenade for Woodwinds alongside the evocative poetry of an Indian American poet, Neha Misra, whose words echo the beauty of the earth and the urgent call for its preservation. As the serene, lyrical melodies of Dvořák's woodwind ensemble fill the sancturay of St. Dunstan’s, they are interwoven with the poet's reflections on nature, capturing the delicate balance between the world we cherish and the need to protect it. This unique blend of music and spoken word creates a contemplative atmosphere, inviting the audience to reflect on the harmony between art and the natural world and to be inspired by both the music and the message to preserve the planet's beauty for future generations.
