Montgomery County Public Library: Wheaton Branch

45 minutes

Welcome to our spring Family Concert! Join us for a free chamber orchestra concert of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, featuring a narration in both English and Spanish. We invite the audience to listen for the sounds of nature within the music! Violinist Kevin Zhu and the NOW chamber orchestra will perform, and a narrator will read English and Spanish translations of the poems written by Vivaldi to accompany the music.

The New Orchestra of Washington (NOW) strives to make transformative musical experiences available to All People. This means creating accessible concert opportunities where our community can hear high-quality live music in a casual setting—away from the stress of a traditional formal concert hall. We offer a safe, judgement-free space for children and families to enjoy music while attending to their own needs. This concert is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

We welcome Kevin Zhu as our violin soloist for this concert. Kevin is the winner of the 2018 Paganini Violin Competition and recipient of the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant. Kevin performs on the c1722 “Lord Wandsworth” Antonio Stradivarious violin, which is on loan from the Ryuji Ueno Foundation and Rare Violins In Consortium Artists and Benefactors Collaborative. The instrument was crafted when Vivaldi composed The Four Seasons!
