“People of the global majority" is an all-encompassing and collective term for Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and/or “ethnic minorities.” The term acknowledges that the People of Global Majority represent over 80% of the world’s population. NOW is adopting this term because it is more accurate than “minority” and less white-centric than “people of color.”

New Orchestra of Washington is dedicated to promoting music by, of and for diverse background and culture. We also recognize that the People of Global Majority takes significantly lower space on the classical chamber music repertoire and stage.

Through the Global Majority Music Project, NOW seeks to help fill this void by actively and intentionally commissioning, performing, featuring recording artists and works by People of the Global Majority.
